The students of the LMS Band are already hard at work preparing for our next performances later this year! At this point 7th and 8th graders have music for their Band Festival Performance already handed out. 6th Graders have two of their selections and more is on the way (hopefully by next week). We expect the students to be practicing these pieces at home to ensure great performances in April and May!
6th grade students have been busy trying out secondary instruments. We are looking to switch around 12 students to the following instruments: Oboe (2), Bassoon (2), French Horn (4), Baritone (2), and Tuba (2). These are school provided instruments. These instruments add depth to the sound of the band and are vital in establishing proper balance within the ensemble. These instruments are also incredibly important to our high school program. We are trying out students in the Flute, Saxophone, and Percussion sections because those sections are where we have our greatest numbers. We check to see if the students exhibit natural tendencies on these instruments that indicate that a switch would be possible. Once we narrow our lists down, information will be sent home with the students who are asked to consider a switch. This is an exciting time for the band as we continue to develop our individual skills but also the sound and maturity of the ensemble as a whole!
Our next performance is Saturday, April 11th for the annual Band Festival. More information will be forthcoming regarding the Festival. We look forward to sharing the results of much hard work on the part of these students!
