Good Morning,
The directors hope that every family had a restful and fun-filled break. We're excited to get back into the swing of things in the band dept. Here is what will be going on: Next Week-Sectionals resume in 7th and 8th grade. 6th graders will continue in group lessons. Our next performance is not until Saturday April 6th which is the annual Louisville Band Festival. More information regarding the Festival will be announced as we approach that date. Please plan on having the late afternoon/evening of April 6th blocked off for the Festival. It's a great event and we're looking forward to hosting the Festival once again. 7th and 8th Graders will soon begin preparing pieces in sectionals for the OMEA Solo and Ensemble contest coming up on April 20th at Alliance HS. Students should plan on reserving the entire day until around 5 p.m. for this event. More exact information will be given out in the weeks prior to the event. Solo and Ensemble involves the students working in small groups (usually 3-6 people) on a piece they prepare in sectionals. On the day of the event, the students perform these pieces for an adjudicator who then assigns a rating (based on a I-V scale I being Superior, V being Poor) to the group based on the quality of their performance. Solo and Ensemble is an important part of a students musical development as it places great emphasis on each student because generally, each student is on their own part in the ensemble, and thus responsible for mastering that part. It's a great experience for the students in 7th and 8th grade. Our Spring Concert was moved to Thursday May 9th at 7:00 p.m. This was announced at the Winter Concert, but please correct your calendars accordingly.
