We hope that all of our band families had a wonderful Holiday season together and are off to a great start in 2014.
The band has a busy second half of the year coming up and here are a few highlights:
Saturday April 5th-Louisville Band Festival (afternoon/evening event)
Saturday April 12th-OMEA District 8 Junior High Solo and Ensemble Event (7th and 8th only)
Tuesday May 6th-LMS Spring Concert
While there is awhile before our next round of performances we're already underway preparing new pieces. 6th grade students will be receiving new music in the coming weeks but should be practicing items from their Essential Elements book.
Secondary Instruments-This information is for our 6th grade parents. We are in the process of trying the students out on the Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Baritone, and Tuba. We are looking to start at least 2 of each of these instruments. Once we have determined who will start on these instruments we will send information home to those parents.
Private Lessons-Starting in early February Mr. Stankey will have openings for anyone interested in private lessons on all brass instruments. Please give Mr. Stankey an e-mail or phone call to set up a lesson time. Private lessons are the best way for students to gain individual attention and instruction in a one-on-one setting.
Please contact Mr. Stankey for more information
Step Up Instruments-Sometime during the second half of the year there will be an opportunity for students and parents to get information about Step Up Instruments. These are intermediate to professional model instruments that will allow your student to maximize their potential. More information will be available in the near future. While not a requirement, step up instruments are strongly encouraged.
High School Band-All incoming freshman/current 8th graders. We want you to be a part of the LHS Band! We are excited about what our high school band has been accomplishing both on the marching field and in the concert bands and YOU are a vital part of the future of these groups. HS scheduling will begin soon and we sincerely hope that every one of our 8th graders chooses to participate in HS band in some way. Please ask Mr. Bleininger or Mr. Stankey any questions regarding your involvement in the LHS band. Fall athletes are not required to march but that does not mean you cannot be in the concert band! We have many fall athletes who join us after the fall season for concert band. You have taken many years to develop your musical talents at LMS and we hope you continue to refine those talents in the high school!
High School Fundraiser-All 8th grade students will be eligible to participate in the upcoming LHS Band Booster Sausage/Best of the Best Sale. Students will be able to earn money toward their student account from this fundraiser. This student account money can be used to pay for any band related expense including lessons, accessories, trips, and marching band related expenses. Please let us know if you have any questions.
That's all for now! Have a great weekend.
